If Worksuite shows an error when you create a Contract, save a change to one, or make it live, the cause is usually one of a few setup issues you can fix yourself. Find the message or symptom below, fix the cause, and save again.

Who can do this: Team members who can create and edit Contracts.

Availability: Available in accounts that use Contracts.

Your workspace may use different names for Contracts, Tasks, Task managers or freelancers. The fixes are the same.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

An error appears when I save a new end date or other change

What you'll see: The change won't save, sometimes with the message "Task managers must belong to active buyers."

Why it happens: A Task manager on the Contract's Task has left your team. This often happens after someone was removed from Worksuite without handing over their Tasks.

How to fix it:

  1. Open the Task on the Contract.
  2. In the Task's sidebar, under Task managers, click the + button.
  3. Add a current teammate, remove anyone who has left, and click Save changes.
  4. Go back to the Contract and save your change again.

To stop this happening again, reassign a person's Tasks when you remove them from Worksuite. See How to Change or Add Task Managers (Invoice Approvers).

"Invalid pk ... object does not exist" when saving a copied Contract

What you'll see: A message like "Invalid pk "1234" - object does not exist." when you save a Contract you duplicated from an older one.

Why it happens: The copy still points to an outdated version of a record, usually your Contract Entity. This happens when your company's entity details changed after the original Contract was created.

How to fix it:

  1. In the copied Contract, select the Contract Entity again from the list, then save.
  2. If the error stays, create a new Contract from the template instead of copying an old one.

For future Contracts, start from the template rather than duplicating older Contracts.

I can't make the Contract live for a freelancer

What you'll see: "This partner hasn't finished the required onboarding yet. Until this happens, you won't be able to make the Contract live."

Why it happens: Your account requires freelancers to be fully onboarded before a Contract goes live. The freelancer isn't in an onboarding workflow, or hasn't finished the workflow that marks them fully onboarded.

How to fix it:

  1. Open the freelancer's profile and check which onboarding workflow they're in and which stage is still open. See How to Check a Freelancer's Onboarding Status and What's Outstanding.
  2. If they aren't in a workflow, add the one your account uses for this kind of work with Manage workflows.
  3. Ask the freelancer to complete their open stages, or complete any internal stages yourself.

Once they're fully onboarded, you can make the Contract live. Contract Tasks are created when the Contract goes live, so the freelancer's Task list stays empty until then. For other reasons a Contract won't go live, see Why a Contract Is Stuck in Draft, Under Review or Scheduled.

"Task vendor is not the staffing supplier's worker"

Why it happens: The Contract's Partner is an agency, and the person in Task Partner isn't linked to that agency. Usually the Task is assigned to the agency itself.

How to fix it: Add the person under the agency, then select them as the Task Partner and save. See Set Up Agencies and Agency-Managed Talent.

A similar message, "Task vendor is not the contract's partner", means the Contract's Partner is a single freelancer, and the Task Partner is someone else. Select the same person in both fields.

The wrong name shows on the Contract or agreement

Why it happens: The name on Contracts and agreements comes from the first name and last name fields on the freelancer's profile. A nickname or a typo there carries through to every document.

How to fix it:

  1. Before the agreement is signed, correct the first and last name on the freelancer's profile. You or the freelancer can do this.
  2. Check the Contract again. New documents use the corrected name.

Agreements that were already sent keep the old name. For an agreement outside a Contract, delete it and send it again from the freelancer's profile. See Set Up and Maintain Your Agreement Templates. For a Contract agreement, contact Worksuite Support to issue it again.

The freelancer or agency never received the Contract

Why it happens: The invitation or agreement email went to an address that doesn't work, often because of a typo. A bounced email means the person never sees their pending steps.

How to fix it: Check the email address on their profile. If they haven't registered yet, correct it there: before registration the profile email is also their login email. Then click the more options button next to Edit and select Resend invitations. If they've already registered, editing the profile email changes only the contact email, not the address they log in with. To change the login email, see How to Change the Login Email for Your Talent or Team Members.

Still stuck?

Before you contact Support, check these common causes:

  • The Contract template is set up for this kind of work, for example an agency template for agency talent.
  • Every required field on the Contract and its Tasks is filled in.
  • The freelancer is fully onboarded.
  • Every Task has at least one current Task manager.
  • The freelancer's email address is correct.

Then contact Worksuite Support with:

  • Your Worksuite workspace URL
  • A link to the Contract, or its name
  • The exact error message, or a screenshot of it
