If you're a sole proprietor or a single-member LLC, the IRS letter that shows your EIN may state your first and last name on the top line and your business name (your DBA, "doing business as") on the second line. The IRS reads that as First Name Last Name dba Business. This article shows how to enter both lines in your tax information so the IRS check passes and your client can pay you.
This is a reminder Worksuite can't give tax advice. If you're not sure how you should file, ask a tax professional or visit the IRS website.

What you'll see
- This applies to you if you save your tax information and see "TIN verification failed: the SSN/EIN you entered is not valid", or you get an email later saying your details are invalid.
- Your EIN is correct, but the name on your IRS letter is split over two lines: your name, then your business name.
Check your CP 575 G notice
Find the CP 575 G notice the IRS sent when it assigned your EIN. This article applies to you if the name at the top of the notice is on two lines:
| Line on your CP 575 G notice | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Top line | Your first and last name, sometimes followed by SOLE MBR |
| Second line | Your DBA (business name) |
If your notice shows only a business name, enter that name as your business name, exactly as it appears, and you don't need the rest of this help article.
How to enter your name and DBA
- Open Settings from the bottom left of Worksuite, then select Tax information.
- Click Edit tax information.
- Under How do you report to your tax authority?, choose As a business.
- In Business Name, enter the top line of your CP 575 G notice exactly as it appears. Include everything on that line, such as SOLE MBR if it's there.
- Turn on the option to enter a disregarded entity name.
- In the disregarded entity field, enter your DBA (the second line) exactly as it appears on the notice.
- Enter your EIN with the hyphen (99-9999999), then save.
Saving runs the IRS check again. Some checks finish after the form saves, so you may get an email later if the details still don't match.
Common mistakes
| Possible error | What to do instead |
|---|---|
| Putting your DBA in Business Name | Business Name takes your first and last name from the top line. The DBA goes in the disregarded entity field. |
| Leaving out SOLE MBR | If it's on the top line of your notice, include it. |
| Shortening, reordering or rewording either line | Copy both lines character for character, including punctuation. |
| Extra spaces before or after the name | Delete any spaces at the start or end of each field, and don't type double spaces. |
| Choosing As an individual with an EIN | An EIN needs As a business. |
If you see "We are currently unable to verify the provided TIN. Please try again later.", the IRS service may be busy, even if your details are correct. The check only runs again when your tax details change. To run it again, change one digit of your TIN and save, then change it back to your correct TIN and save again.Still stuck?
If the check still fails after you've entered both lines exactly as they appear on your CP 575 G notice, contact Worksuite Support with:
- your full name
- your client's name
- the exact error message you see (a screenshot is even better!)
- a copy of your CP 575 G notice, only if the Support Team asks for it
