Add a Checkr Screening stage to an onboarding workflow, and your talent complete Checkr's background check from inside Worksuite. You see each person's result in the workflow and can open the full report in Checkr, so screening runs as part of onboarding instead of as a separate process.
Who can do this: Teammates who can edit workflows.
Availability: Checkr screening needs your Checkr account connected to Worksuite. Contact Worksuite Support to connect it.

Before you start
- Contact Worksuite Support to connect your Checkr account. The Checkr Screening stage only appears in the stage list after the connection is in place.
- The screening packages you can pick come from your connected Checkr account. If a package you expect is missing, contact Worksuite Support.
Add the screening stage
- In the side menu, go to Workflows → Workflows.
- Click Create new workflow, or open the ⋮ menu next to an existing workflow and choose Edit.
- Click Partner-facing stage and select Checkr Screening. The stage settings open.
- Enter a Stage name, such as "Background check".
- (Optional) Tick Add stage description and tell talent what to expect.
- Under Choose screening package, select the package to run.
- Under The stage is completed when: pick the rule that fits your process (see the table below).
- (Optional) Under Notifications, click Add a partner notification to send your own email when talent reach this stage. See Custom Workflow Notifications.
- Click Save, then click Save workflow.
Anyone who reaches this stage from now on is asked to start their screening.
| Completion rule | The stage completes when | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| The screening package has been submitted | The person submits Checkr's form | You want onboarding to keep moving while Checkr runs the check |
| The screening report is ready | Checkr's report is ready | You want every report back before the next stage |
| Partner passed the screening | Checkr's result is Passed | Only people with a clear result should move on |
Your workspace may use a different name for Partners, such as Freelancers or Talent, so these labels may use that name instead.
What your talent see
- Talent open the stage in their onboarding and click Start screening.
- Checkr's form opens in a Background screening window. They fill it in and submit it to Checkr.
- The stage then shows their screening status, such as Underway.
If the form doesn't open, they see "We couldn't start the screening." with a Retry button.
Check results
Open the workflow from Workflows → Workflows and select a person to see their screening stage. It shows the package name and one of these statuses:
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Not started | The person hasn't started Checkr's form. | Use Send reminder notification on their row in the workflow. |
| Pending | Checkr is running the checks. Talent see this as Underway. | Wait for Checkr to finish. |
| Passed | Checkr's report came back clear. | Click View report on Checkr to see the full report. |
| Consider | The report has results your team should review. | Click View report on Checkr and make your decision in Checkr. |
| Engaged | Shows next to Consider once your team has marked the person as engaged in Checkr. | No action needed in Worksuite. |
| Completed | Checkr has finished the report. | Check the result in your Checkr account. |
| Suspended | Checkr has paused the report. | Check the report in your Checkr account for the reason. |
| Dispute | The person has disputed the report with Checkr. | Wait for Checkr to resolve the dispute. |
| Invitation expired. Click to resend | The person didn't use their Checkr invitation in time. | Click the message to send a new invitation. You'll see "Invitation has been resent". |
Keep screening after onboarding (optional)
Continuous screening asks Checkr to keep checking a person after their first screening. If your account has it, add it as an action:
- In the workflow, click Add action stage.
- Click Add an action and select Checkr continuous screening.
- Under Choose continuous screening package, select Criminal or Professional License Verification.
- Click Save, then click Save workflow.
If Checkr continuous screening isn't in the list, contact Worksuite Support.
Use results in compliance rules
You can make a passed screening part of your compliance rules, so only people with a Passed result (or a Passed or Consider result) count as compliant. See Compliance Rules.
